I'm a Musician and I needed a new camera to videotape my concerts. I used to have a Sony HC-26 Mini-DV Camcorder, It was good, but It didn't behave very well on a inside place although for outdors was a gr8 camera.but now I've found what I was looking for. This camera is simply fantastic. It has a superior video quality, records very well with few light without use the Nightshot, that is good but let people grey.the 60 Gbytes HD let me record without worry about the time (You have to purchase a long life battery). The functions are very easy to use even for those who never used a camcorder before. It's easy to export the videos to PC (You need just a USB cable, provided with the camcorder). This is a link for a video of one of my performances my wife videotape with the camera.we had low light in the hall.check it out.[.].
For the average person videoing vacations, birthdays, etc, this would make a good camera. I gave 4 of 5 stars only because the lens cover is manual. Plenty of storage, easy to use, good quality for the money. I did buy a larger battery and portable charger for convenience.
Also when going from close targets to telephoto and capturing scenes farther away, the camera has problem to focus in immediately or clearly, unless of course it is a bright shinny day outside. Sound quality capture is great. I guess one would have to get a more professional video camera if one wanted to film during low lighting environments without the need of an obnoxious Headlight. So I raising my previous rating from two stars to three stars.
Also deleting movies on the touch screen can be time consuming, so I personally do that after downloading family movies onto my computer. I was expecting a lot more clarity being a SONY HD Camcorder. However don't use the photo capture if you want a quality photograph. The recorder does have a hard time with focusing during slight or low light environments. But after downloading the movie files to my computer, using SONY software to make my movie, and create a DVD the end product video quality was no better than a VHS tape. I'll give an update to this if I can figure out the clarity issue and change my revue to five stars. It will thus make image quality seem grainy or out of focus. However for a camera which can capture hours of recorded data, it's good.
Overall for a general video recorder it's good. Great Technology. 16 Jan 2010: Well after recording, downloading, editing recorded movies and transferring it to DVD I found some interesting things from this video camera. The touch screen is cool, but editing should be left to when you transfer your movies to the computer.
My wife loves it--If the wife is happy everyone is happy. Fairly simple to use for the technically challenged. The video is great. I would definitely buy again from this vendor. I purchased this camcorder for my wife. I found it very easy to use. Good software for downloading.
Battery life is good enough. Con: Cap lock for battery poorly designed and sometimes opens in my pocket.
I has been using Window Movie Maker now and affraid to use software which came with the camera. It would be nice to have more editing options in addition to just delete the whole scene.
Zoom is very fast sometimes, but I probably just did not get used to it. It took me an hour to recover it.
Pro: Very light and small. So far enough memory for my needs, I did not even bought memory card yet.
It would be helpful to have split option on the camera itself, then one can free more space.Canon software crashed my Window based laptop.
